Book Review for “Do You QuantumThink?”

Do you quantumthink? My (layman’s) interest in quantum physics theories led me to purchase the book, “Do You QuantumThink?–New Thinking That Will Rock Your World”, by Diane Collins,” And it turned out to be one of the best books I’ve ever read, and you don’t have to be interested in physics to appreciate it. The book presents a unique new way to improve the activity that coaches do the most-–communication.

Diane’s premise is, “When you master your mind, you master your life.”

She makes easy to understand and implement a new and effective way of thinking into your life—Quantum thinking.  And this new slant on thinking is what can positively help coaches communicate with their clients.

The book starts by outlining how our “old world” (conventional) view of things is becoming obsolete. Discoveries in Quantum field theory illustrate how humanity is transitioning into a new understanding of reality and Diane ties this into a new self-awakening. She discusses different aspects of how the world is changing and the problems that have arisen because of the old way of thinking. The solution she unveils is her system called QuantumThink®.

She introduces and explains 21 practical “distinctions” (principles), each with techniques that can be applied immediately to different situations including: relationships with others, personal growth, and even situations in business. And I find that the techniques work especially well in the area of communication.

One distinction is “Observer-Created Reality.” It uses a principle of quantum physics which is that everything we perceive as solid or fixed is actually a “wave function”—that is, energy in motion.  In this view, things are not fixed but are constantly changing waves in an infinite field. What that means to us, is that our circumstances are not set in stone— we can change them at any time.

As I started to do the “recreations” (exercises), I found that several distinctions can be applied at the same time.

For example, I was dealing with someone in a business disagreement.  Remembering the exercises I had done for the distinction “Observer-Created Reality”, I was able to pull back from the argument, relax, and:

1-really listen to the other person’s point of view

2-ask an empowering question: “How can this work for everyone involved?”

3-stop an unhelpful knee-jerk reaction of wanting my own way

4-allow for all possibilities, and

5-stay centered in an uncomfortable situation.

The result was a “quantum occurrence”. Out of the blue, a solution occurred to me that made the entire argument irrelevant.

The author has obviously done extensive research on Quantum physics and cites  the work of renowned physicists such as Fred Alan Wolf and John Hagelin. But she also draws from the wisdom of the teachings of spiritual masters.

Collin’s book shines an entirely new light on how and why simple changes in how we think can greatly improve our effectiveness as coaches.  It gives you the tools needed to handle all avenues of communication better while giving you fresh insights into yourself and life in general.

Anyone who wants to create opportunities for evolutionary self-growth, and become more flexible and adaptable for weathering challenges with grace and courage, should read and keep this book as a lifelong reference.
