Today is Labor Day and I’m taking a break from business to tell you a story. It’s about my new office assistant, Pierre. He had started as my assistant while I was traveling this summer and I have a feeling he did a lot of sleeping on the job. Here is the story.
A friend of mine gave me a pretty bowl and I put it on my coffee table. A couple of days later I noticed that Pierre was taking a nap in it. My friend came over one day and when I told her that Pierre was taking naps in it, she said he couldn’t possibly fit in that bowl. As Pierre was in the same room, he immediately jumped into the bowl and snuggled in, as if to prove to her that he could! (And some people wonder if animals understand what we’re saying!) Pierre is like any cat, always looking for heat and comfort. I think he was the happiest than anyone when we finally got our Heat Pump Repair done last winter. I hear warmth provided a sense of security to cats, and my sweetheart Pierre will do anything for comfort.
A couple of weeks later, Pierre, who sleeps in a cat bed in my office at night, started meowing one night after I put him to bed. There is a fountain in there that had broken and I thought that maybe he missed the water sound. So I thought I should put the bowl on my new office desk and thought that maybe that would help. It did-he stopped meowing.
The next day I fixed the fountain, put the bowl back in the living room and that night he started meowing again. The fountain was fixed so I was puzzled. I thought that maybe he wanted the bowl in there, so I put it back on my desk, and that did the trick. He hasn’t meowed at night since, and when I go in to get him in the morning, he’s in the bowl.
Now he likes to take naps in the bowl while I’m working, so he can be near me. And he’s usually sleeping on the job!! And that’s my story of the cat and the bowl.
