Are You Hiding From Your Business?

are you hiding from your business - life coach associationIf you are thinking that the day-to-day tasks of your business are becoming a burden, you may just find that running your business is so overwhelming, that you ‘hide’ from it day after day.

You procrastinate. You spend whole days not doing the tasks or in not involving yourself in the routines you know you ought to create… or you camouflage your procrastination by making yourself busy as a bee with ‘business’ activities that do nothing to further your goals.

You soothe yourself over these non-essential activities by saying things like, “well, spending time on social media is essential” or “well, learning the history behind the evolution of modern radio will give more depth to my podcasts” or “well, one day I’m going to write a book, so taking a course on formatting for Kindle was a good idea”.

If that feels like you, ask yourself, “What is really going on with me?” Ten to one, you’ll realize that you feel ‘at sea’-you don’t know the right steps to take in creating your business plan, and setting things in motion.

You listen to webinars that talk about new technology like Blockchain and say to yourself, “that makes perfect sense”-but when it comes to putting what you learned into action, you’re in a state of confusion and demoralization before you’ve had your first coffee break. Maybe what your need is time to research your new business interest and get a head-start on it. For instance, if you are planning on incorporating blockchain in your system, analyze how it can help your business and if needed, get the aid of one of those blockchain development services to implement custom blockchain solutions.

Learning new technology takes time, and when it comes to business, you need to allot enough time for research. You learn about one component, which leads to discovering another. So, you try to tackle that, only to find out you need to integrate it with another technique or another piece of software. You end up frustrated, feeling like a hamster going full-tilt in its little wheel, day after day.

And your confidence quietly plummets.

What if there was somebody there to help you? What if there was a course that you could truly follow, step-by-step, to help you achieve business management, and help you access the systems you need, outsource to the people and systems that you need, so that you free yourself up to do what you do best in the most enjoyable way to do it?

3 Steps to Start Getting Unstuck Today

3 Steps to Start Getting Unstuck Today:

1-Plan a Business Strategy

First, you need to determine:

  • Your goals for your business
  • How you want to work on it
  • What you want most to offer
  • Who you are offering to
  • What you love to do the most
  • Why you love to do it
  • How much money you need to make and budget
  • What tools you want to use

Creating your superstar business framework will be the foundation for creating your superstar business plan. Get organized-enjoyably in a way you can feel excited about. Additionally, if you have a business with a product line, you can also plan for compliance, as well as rules and regulations your business may adhere to. In that case, you can also consult a contractor company like RSB Environmental, which can help you in implementing and following all the necessary laws. The compliances may include Tier II Reports, Air Quality, Stormwater Compliance and Waste Water, Environmental Remediation Services, Hazardous and Industrial Waste Permitting, and OSHA Safety and Health programs.

2- Prioritize Your Daily Tasks

We all have different skills and sweet spots when it comes to the tasks we want and need to do. You might love customer support and hate bookkeeping, while someone else enjoys the numbers game and doesn’t like dealing with the help desk. But regardless of your personal preferences, one thing is certain: money-making tasks should be at the very top of your to-do list.

That might mean product creation, email marketing, client outreach, webinar development, or something entirely different. Identify those money-making tasks in your business and be sure to prioritize them every single day.

Know the difference between important and urgent. In his classic book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” Stephen Covey recommends prioritizing tasks based on a time-management grid. Every task is assigned to a quadrant of the grid, based on whether it is urgent, important, both, or neither.

Once you know where a task falls on the grid, you’ll immediately know what you should be working on. For example, marketing and planning are important but not urgent. A ringing phone is urgent, but not important. The sales page for your new program, which is launching tomorrow, is both urgent AND important.

So before you prioritize your daily to-do list, think about where each of your tasks falls in the quadrant, and schedule them accordingly.

Will you always be working on the best task for right now? Probably not. Nor will you always use your time as wisely as you could. But by making a conscious effort to organize and prioritize your days, you’ll find it’s a lot less stressful and overwhelming to manage your small business.

3-Stay in Your Own Lane

Overwhelm is a real thing in online businesses. There is always more that could be done. More products to create, more blogs to write, more opt-in pages to build, more clients to connect with, more, more, more.

And one of the biggest contributors? Shiny object syndrome.

Every time you’re tempted to buy that new, must-have tool, or to test out a new marketing method, or even to switch business models entirely, you’re falling victim to this business killer.

Here’s the problem with shiny object syndrome. It prevents you from achieving success by shifting your focus away just when you’re about to hit your sweet spot. It’s true. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. A promising online startup business just begins to make sales and gain a following, and then out of the blue, the owner does a pivot into a completely unrelated niche or business.

All that work… just gone. Don’t let this happen to you.

The first step toward the clarity and focus you need to avoid shiny object syndrome is simply to know your goals. Where exactly are you going and how are planning it? Do you want to build an eCommerce store with BigCommerce or Shopify? Will you be hiring Shopify help to build the website or for maintenance work? Have you strategized the website store design? Will it be targeting local or international customers?

Regardless of your business model, if you don’t know your goal, you will always struggle with focus, and every new strategy and tool will pull you further away from your dreams.

Before you implement a new marketing strategy, change business plans, or even purchase a new tool, ask yourself if you’re truly willing to give it a fair shot at success. Marketing strategies take time to grow legs. Business models can require years to show a profit. And that shiny new tool won’t earn back its cost if you toss it aside next week for something different.
