How to Be A Strategic Thinker – Part 2

How to be a strategic thinker-2This is part 2 of a 2-part series. Read Part 1 here.

Strategic thinking is a skill in thinking, assessing, viewing, solving problems and creating our future for ourselves and others. A strategic thinker is constantly learning and growing. They are always looking for new experiences that can help them expand their knowledge and understanding of the world. This could involve taking classes, traveling, or meeting new people.

Here are 12 more characteristics of strategic thinkers and how you can become one:

  1. Strategic thinkers are patient. They don’t rush to conclusions, knowing great ideas require time to develop into success in the future.
  2. They see a potential for how the world should be and take the steps to get there.
  3. Strategic thinkers set up and commit to deadlines.
  4. They are conscious of their own biases.
  5. They are observant, watching before forming a judgement.
  6. They understand other people’s intentions, desires and hopes.
  7. Strategic thinkers make quick informed decisions.
  8. They are good communicators, effectively communicating what they want and need through clear directions or orders.
  9. They respect the thoughts and desires of others.
  10. They react calmly under pressure.
  11. Strategic thinkers have a high level of confidence and self-esteem.
  12. They know their weaknesses and seek advice from others in those areas.

Everyone has their own unique thinking style, but some styles are better suited for strategic thinking than others. For example, strategic thinkers tend to be more open-minded, creative, and future-oriented. They are flexible thinkers so they can shift gears and think about things in more than one way.

If you’re not naturally a strategic thinker, you can learn to adjust your thinking style by challenging yourself to see things from different perspectives, brainstorming new ideas, and thinking about the long-term consequences of your actions.

Strategic thinkers are able to take a step back from their day-to-day activities and think big picture. They do this by regularly scheduling time for reflection and planning. This could involve setting aside specific time each week for goal-setting, brainstorming, or reading about strategic thinking.

If you want to become a better strategic thinker, it’s important to talk to other people about your ideas and get their input. Encourage the people around you to think strategically as well.

Once you’ve developed a strategic plan, it’s important to be decisive and take action. This could involve setting goals, making changes, or taking risks.
