“How to Use LinkedIn for Business: 6 Fast, Easy Ways to Attract a Flood of New Clients!”
By Guest Blogger, Yoon Cannon
If you’re struggling to attract more clients it’s time to consider new ways to market yourself. LinkedIn is one of my favorite “new” marketing strategies. Although LinkedIn first launched in 2003, for many entrepreneurs and small business owners LinkedIn is still a new, untapped business development strategy.
Did you know that LinkedIn has proven to be 277% more effective at generating leads for your business than Facebook or Twitter? With more than 300 million users, LinkedIn is the most popular social network. ?
In the old days I used to drop $30,000 a year to be listed in five different phone books. When you advertise in a phone book you commit to one ad, which you cannot change for a full year. Despite that limitation and the high cost like so many other business owners I still paid to advertise in the Yellow Pages because it used to be most people would pick up the phone directory when they were looking to hire someone and fill a need. The sad part is that in 10 years I spent $300,000.00 that ended up not even grossing half that amount.
The GOOD NEWS is today buyer behavior has changed. Most people are no longer even picking up the phone book to hire someone. They’re jumping online.
The EVEN BETTER NEWS is that you can be visible where your prospects are looking, and you don’t have to spend $30,000 a year to do that. LinkedIn is FREE! And, it does not require a huge amount of my time. In fact, LinkedIn alone has generated six figures in new business for me in as little as 30 minutes a day.
If you’re looking for ways to attract new clients faster and easier you should reconsider any misconceptions you might have about LinkedIn and learn how to maximize LinkedIn marketing for your business. If you’re not on LinkedIn regularly, it’s most likely because you don’t know what you should be doing on LinkedIn to attract new clients. ?
Here are 6 key actions you can take right away to get started. ?
LinkedIn Tip #1: Claim your vanity URL.?
When you first fill out your LinkedIn profile the default LinkedIn address you receive will be made up of a garbled combination of letters and numbers. You want to make your profile look more professional and easier to share by claiming your LinkedIn vanity URL. Instead of a URL like http://www.linkedin.com/in/hslegsbklbsekhb8, it will look a lot more professional as http://www.Linkedin.com/in/YoonCannon.
All you need to do is click “customize your public profile URL” down on the right- hand side.
LinkedIn Tip #2: Name your blog and website links.
Instead of using the default “My Website” you can help yourself stand out and be more memorable to your LinkedIn viewers. You will need to choose “other” in the 1st box in order to see the 2nd box where you can now write the name of your blog or website.
Then, in the 3rd box you can write in the URL address of your website, blog site and/or landing page. Each profile can display up to 3 website links like this, and they can be customized by editing your profile
LinkedIn Tip #3: Install applications.
LinkedIn provides a variety of different applications you can use to improve your LinkedIn profile. Check out the Application Directory, and consider linking your blog or applications like SlideShare to showcase your thought leadership and expertise platform. There are a lot of great applications available to help you stand out among your competition on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn Tip #4: Optimize your LinkedIn profile
Your LinkedIn page ranks in search engines like any other and by boosting its SEO you can greatly improve your marketing efforts. Add the keyword phrases throughout your LinkedIn profile that your prospects would likely use to find someone like you. For example, if you’re using SEO for remodelers, your keywords might be renovation, interior design, kitchen sink etc. These keywords should be carried throughout all webpages like a theme so that the search engines pick up on them and rank you higher when someone searches for that word in their search engine. These keywords could then be used by companies offering niche edits and curated links. This can help someone’s LinkedIn profile to rank even higher, increasing it’s likelihood of being seen by many more people.
My profile is optimized for phrases like “Business Coach”, “LinkedIn Training” and “Sales and Marketing Expert”. If I wanted to be listed in 3 different categories in the phone book, I would have to pay 3 times the price. With LinkedIn you can get your profile found in multiple categories for free just by taking the time to optimize your profile.
LinkedIn Tip #5: Complete 100% of your profile
Once you’ve made a connection with a potential lead, your profile is the first page they’ll see. LinkedIn gives you a generous amount of real estate on your free profile, which I find most people do not take full advantage of. By completing every aspect of your LinkedIn profile, you’ll be able to position your expertise and showcase your experience, portfolio, skills, current projects and much more.
LinkedIn Tip #6: Connect with people you already know
Colleagues and friends are 70% more likely to engage with your content than other people allowing you to boost the reach and engagement of your posts quickly and easily.
The more popular a post, the more traffic and leads it will generate. On LinkedIn people who you are directly connected with are called your 1st degree connections, so be sure to connect with the people you already know. They are the ones who will want to help support you either through strategic introductions or simply sharing your posts to their network.
These 6 tips I shared are all passive LinkedIn marketing strategies. What’s great about passive steps is you do these things once and it continues to work for you 24/7 on the internet. Your prospects can search your keyword phrases, whether on LinkedIn or on Google, and your optimized LinkedIn profile shows up in their search results.
Remember, in order to attract a flood of new clients you have to first GET FOUND by your ideal target market. LinkedIn is a superb vehicle to helping your get found, get famous and get clients.
